Establishment of Your Legal Presence in Russia
If you need to have a legal presence in Russia, but opening a company is not what you want at this stage, establishment of a representative office or branch would be the best solution.
Branches and representative office are the types of limited legal presence in Russia as compared to the full legal presence in the form of a Russian legal entity. They are easy to operate and neither branch nor representative office are a separate legal entity. They both act in the name of and on behalf of the foreign legal entity, which allows a foreign company to have more control over their activities.
Having a branch or representative office would, inter alia, allow to: (i) obtain visas for its accredited expatriate employees and company representatives, (ii) open and operate bank accounts in Russia, (iii) register vehicles, and (iv) conduct various logistical operations, which would otherwise be difficult for a foreign company to handle in Russia.
As a general rule, the establishment and operation of a branch or a representative office is less complicated and time-consuming than the establishment of a Russian legal entity.
